We have often heard the vociferous Malabar Pied Hornbills in many national parks in India and then followed their noisy calls to spot them. However, Pied Hornbills are very shy birds and rarely sit quietly, especially on lower branches, making it a big challenge to photograph this species. On this trip to Kabini, all that changed for good. While we were searching the wilderness for Leopards, we heard the unmistakable calls of Pied Hornbills. We followed the calls and landed on a pair of them. To our good luck, they were just about in the range of my new 600mm f4 lens. Also for a change, they gave us a few moments to get some nice pictures. Here’s a series from that incredible sighting.
