We were on an evening safari in the Yala national park, Sri Lanka when we heard Chital (Spotted Deer) alarm calls. Noel, our host and owner of Leopard Safaris immediately switched off our vehicle engine and then tried to ascertain the direction of the call. Everyone in the vehicle went completely silent and motionless and that is when someone spotted this Black-naped Hare making its way into the clearing next to the vehicle.
I took the opportunity to capture some portraits of this welcome distraction while Noel was deciding on which route to take in order to reach the location of the alarm calls quickly. After some restless wait, Noel pointed out that it is time to rush to the source of the alarm calls. And we headed off leaving this friendly Black-naped Hare to go about its business of having an evening meal before the sun goes down.
