Here’s wishing all of you a very happy 2010.
The first post of this year is based on an amazing sighting of the fastest animal in the world – The Peregrine Falcon, a widespread resident and winter visitor to India.. This was our first trip to the Kaziranga wildlife sanctuary in Assam, India and the sighting of this beautiful raptor was one of the many highlights of our trip .We were on our second jeep safari into the Eastern range (also know as ‘Agoratoli) of Kaziranga when we spotted the Peregrine Falcon perched high on a tree right next to the game tracks. We were so excited to have spotted it that our cameras started clicking away. On looking closely, we saw that it was with a fresh kill! Watching the Peregrine Falcon devour its morning breakfast will surely be one of the most amazing wildlife experiences that we have had till date.
Over here, we must give credit to our guide and driver Kaliya, an excellent spotter with a keen eye for birds. Kaliya is from the Wild Grass Resort, one of the best and oldest resorts in Kaziranga. We highly recommend the resort to all wildlife enthusiasts and photographers.
Given the early morning foggy conditions, the lighting was not ideal for photography. However, there was no way that we would have let go of this opportunity. Here’s a collection of images taken with the D300, 300mm f2.8 lens with the 2x TC. Basic post processing was done using Nikon Capture NX.
