We were on one of our morning safaris into the Yala national park in Sri Lanka on the lookout for another Leopard. We had been fortunate to have seen the elusive cat a few times already, however, we were still eager for more. We were treading slowly along the safari trail trying to spot another Leopard when we saw this juvenile Crested Hawk Eagle sitting on an clear perch, at eye level.
Crested Hawk Eagle are known to sit on perches high up in the trees and scanning the forest floor for potential prey. Occasionally they are found at open perches like this at eye level giving a fabulous opportunity for full frame compositions. We thanked our lucky stars and made most of this opportunity. We always carry two camera setups; the D300 with 300mm f2.8 with 2x TC and D700 with 70-200mm f2.8 and made full use of both the combinations to produce these images.
