I was on a short break to Bali and was staying at the beautiful Intercontinental resort property in Jimbaran, Bali. One afternoon I was lazing around at my hotel room and stepped out onto the balcony. While looking at the water body below, from the corner of my vision, I noticed something rush into the water. But before I could figure out what it was, it disappeared into the water. I decided to wait a few minutes and scan the water’s edge. And then I saw it. A small Monitor Lizard (above) was foraging on some dead fish at the water’s edge. As I quietly watched, another Monitor Lizard emerged from the water and came onto the rocks (below) and quickly went in the direction of the other Lizard, which was now hidden in the shurbs. The sight of two Monitor Lizards right next to my room got me all excited and I rushed out to find a way to reach this area of the hotel.
After some trial and error, I found the exit to get to this water body behind the hotel. I reached the water’s edge only to see one of the Monitor Lizard’s swiftly vanish (above) into the water and my efforts to find the other lizard seemed futile.
I waited for about thirty minutes without much success. And when I had all but given up and was ready to head back to the room, one of the Monitor Lizards popped up (above) near a lotus flower. I maneuvered around to a position to get a few pictures (like the one below) before it once again disappeared into deeper water.
I rounded off the evening with the feature picture (first picture) of a fisherman trying his luck at the beach adjoining the hotel.
