Peacock, or Male Indian Peafowl, is a beautiful bird known for its beautiful and brilliant colored fan like tail plumage. The Peacock’s plumage can be best appreciated during its courtship dance, which happens on the ground when the male Indian Peafowl displays its long train of feathers dancing and showing off in front of the peahen. We were fortunate to observe and photograph this wildlife spectacle a couple of times in Nagarhole National Park and Bandipur National Park. Here is a collection of images showing the brilliance of the Peacock’s plumage during its courtship dance.
The largest congregation of Asiatic Elephants happens during the summer months at the Kabini back waters in Nagarhole National Park. We have had many memorable Elephant charges in Nagarhole National Park.
All images were taken handheld, using jeep rails for additional support, with the D300, 300mm f2.8 with 2x TC.The striking factor of the Peacock’s plumage are the iridescent hues of green, blue, yellow, and brown, which look amazingly different in every angle of light. The three images below show you this phenomenon. The sunlight is falling right to left at almost right angles both on the Peacock and us.
The next three images take a closer look at another wild Peacock’s Plumage during its courtship dance. Once before we witnessed a sparkling courtship dance in Nagarhole National Park.
