The best place to photograph the Indian Wild Boar is the BR Hills wildlife sanctuary. This is because the Jungle lodges resort in BR Hills is deep in the middle of the reserve forest. Though one can find the Wild Boar almost everywhere within the resort premises, they are always present near the Golghar (dinning hall) because of the smell of food.
During the last visit to BR Hills, when I photographed the Spotted Dove couple, I saw a herd of Wild Boars hovering around the Golghar area. I decided to try and snap some close up portraits. Because of the heat of the late morning, I found a couple of piglets sleeping in the shade. While I was trying to sort out the lighting factor, one of the sub-adult females turned around and looked at me, while still lying on the ground. As I was photographing the female, this massive male Wild Boar walked well within the range of the 300mm f2.8 lens with 2x TC, giving me an opportunity to get a few extreme close up images.
