The pre-monsoon showers turn Kabini into a lush-green carpet and a paradise of abundance. The onset of the monsoon is also the beginning of the rutting season for the Spotted Deer. The rutting calls of the Spotted Deer echoes through the Nagarhole National Park, especially in early mornings. All Stags, Friends and Foes alike demonstrate behaviors of posturing, sparring and scent marking as seen in the pictures below.

Most probably this Spotted Deer (below picture) got a discarded fishing net entangled in its antlers while trying to scent mark the foliage (similar to the picture above).

And finally all the marathon efforts during rutting season is for the basic urge to make sure you are the one to pass on your genes to the next generation.
