We were on a dawn-to-dusk safari in the Ngorongoro crater. And its needless to say that it was a spectacular safari! The sheer density of wildlife in the crater is simply mind boggling. We started out early and caught the sunrise over the crater and then descended into the crater to see African Elephants, Lions, Serval cat and Buzzards. Following a Serval cat while it was hunting, and photographing another one up close, was an amazing moment for us. Observing the African Elephant interacting with a tourist vehicle was yet another unforgettable experience.

On the lighter side, watching this Zebra enjoying a mud bath was hilarious. It all happened as we were parked on one of the crater tracks watching a herd of Black Rhinoceros grazing in the distance. We were hoping that the Rhinos would come closer, but it was not to be. But while we were waiting, we saw this herd of Zebras that came along and stopped close to us. One of the mares found a clearing in the grass and it seemed the ideal place to have a mud bath while the rest of the herd just waited.

It was evident that this Zebra was having a wonderful time enjoying the mud bath, while the others standing closer weren’t too impressed. It was indeed a sight to see this Zebra roll from side to side again and again trying to get as much mud as possible onto its coat.
